Powerlifting

by Mar 29, 2024

As any student can attest, having both physical and mental outlets are crucial to relieving the stress of school. Additionally, the physical outlets we choose are vital to our health. As a chiropractic student, my chosen profession is highly active and will demand a lot from my body. Strength training is not only beneficial but essential for both me and my future patients.

One of my passions is powerlifting, a sport where you have three attempts per lift to achieve a max squat, bench, and deadlift, that combined make up a total. This past weekend I competed in a local-level Tallahassee meet where I took first place in my weight class. I squatted 584 pounds, benched 385 pounds, and deadlifted 639 pounds. This weekend meant a lot to me, as it was my first real feeling of destressing and revitalizing this semester, at a pivotal time where we just finished our last major exams before our upcoming finals. As this competition took place near FSU, my alma mater, it was even more special because I was able to do this with many of my friends.

I feel more ready than ever to finish this semester strong, and I think this is a good lesson showing just how much your passions as well as downtime can impact your academic performance!

Dylan Kahn

My name is Dylan Kahn, and I am currently heading into my fourth trimester of the Doctor of Chiropractic program at the Florida campus of NUHS. I have a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, with a minor in chemistry from Florida State University. When I am not in school, I love to adventure with my fiancé, Sarah, powerlift, and play the piano. I hope that this blog will be helpful to all those that read it in understanding my journey as a chiropractic student, and what life is like for all of us on this path.
