David Mayer
Chief Clinician of the Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Department
David Mayer, DACM, LAc., ACSM-CPT, NASM-CNC, has been Chief Clinician of the Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Department since 2023. He has also been a lecturer since 2022.
Dr. Mayer splits his time between the NUHS Whole Health Center and his practice, DuPage Acupuncture Clinic in Naperville, which he opened in 2016. He specializes in treating the side effects for patients going through cancer treatments. He also treats a wide range of conditions, including neuromusculoskeletal pain and functional issues, sleep and stress disorders, digestive issues, women’s health issues and facial rejuvenation.
“Since starting out and using acupuncture to help women conceive, the count is about 17 babies in the past 7 years, and I don’t specialize in fertility,” he said.
In 2022, Dr. Mayer was selected as the first Preceptor for the NUHS acupuncture department. He is truly passionate about training the next generation of acupuncturists.
“My favorite part of teaching is seeing the ‘light’ go on when students make the connection from classroom to practical treatments,” he said.
Dr. Mayer graduated valedictorian with his Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from National University of Health Sciences and earned his Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Sciences. He is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, is a certified personal trainer and also a certified nutrition coach. In addition, he earned his Master of Science in Geology and his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Northern Illinois University.
