Steven Freeman, DC, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Clinical Sciences, NUHS-Florida recently released, The Referral-Based Office – The Truth Behind Interdisciplinary Referrals for Chiropractic Management, a book that provides chiropractic physicians with an insider perspective on how to get referrals.

One question seems to permeate chiropractic discussion: ‘How do I get medical physicians to refer more patients to my practice?’ Having worked within a true multidisciplinary practice for many years, I had the opportunity to see how and why medical physicians made referrals – and it became clear that other DCs would benefit from my inside knowledge,” Dr. Freeman said.

Dr. Freeman started working on a basic draft of the book almost fifteen years ago. At that time, he still owned a consulting company that, amongst other things, helped guide chiropractors through the process of establishing medical relationships. The book is based on his experiences with both medical physicians and chiropractic clients during those years. He also included his client’s stories and quotes from MDs he met from around the country.

“To me, the stories and quotes lend a sense of honesty and directness to the book that will allow readers to see themselves more clearly – and maybe adjust their marketing strategies,” he said.

As a professor at NUHS-FL, Dr. Freeman also wanted to provide students with a tangible guide that they can take with them as part of his marketing and communication course.

“There will come a time in their early careers when they recognize the inherent benefit to establishing medical relationships,” he said. “This book may provide that pathway.”

He believes the book will be particularly valuable to the many chiropractic physicians who do not work in a true multidisciplinary practice and are not able to see the internal workings of a medical practice, let alone hear how referral decisions are made.

“I think this book does a good job of opening the door to this understanding, so that chiropractic doctors can see why their reports are not generating referrals or their calls are going unanswered. MDs don’t make referral decisions that way – and this book gives insight that can help to guide better marketing,” he said.

The Referral-Based Office – The Truth Behind Interdisciplinary Referrals for Chiropractic Management will soon be available for purchase on Amazon. To purchase a copy, email Dr. Freeman at [email protected].
