Here I am entering the beginning of my fourth trimester in the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program, and it’s good to be back to the old routine. Don’t get me wrong, it was great seeing family and friends over holiday break. But, being in class zooming around as a busy bee and working toward a big goal for myself is the most amazing feeling! During break, I felt like a lump on a log. Waking up and doing practically nothing other than being lazy, catching up on Netflix shows. Starting up classes and seeing familiar faces allows me to be back with my NUHS family while away from home. As students going through the same academic challenges, we are able to reflect and guide each other forward.
Saying goodbye to 2018 was a nice way to welcome 2019: a clean slate. I don’t like saying goodbye, but sooner or later, it’s good to welcome new things and move ahead. We not only said goodbye to the old year, but looked to the new year to help jump start the next phase of life. 2018 was a tough year for many, perhaps easier for some; yet for me it brought a bit sadness with some good memories.
I went through so many events in 2018, some of which can break a person. However, much unconditional love and guidance from family and friends have prepared me to be strong. These challenges have taught me to be kind, for that will help me to understand my patients. To be patient with love, for when I help others, it will better me as a whole person. And, to trust all in divine timing, for without that reminder, I would not be here and continuing my studies at National.
This February will also mark my father’s passing. Throughout all the hustle and bustle of life there are points where I can look back and reflect. We all can. Reflect on how far we have come. Reflect on the many events we have being together like holidays and special events. But no matter what, we should always take a moment to just be thankful. It’s sad that we don’t spend as much time together as we might like. But certain events happen to remind us to appreciate all that we have. Hopefully, there are times where everyone has a chance to reflect on life — not only the good or the bad, for the past or too far in the future, but most of all be present in life. Remember to make time to take it easy; take a moment and be kind to one another.
