In the past couple of weeks, there have been some exciting things taking place in the naturopathic medicine world. I am excited to share the good news!
Senate Bill 532 would give licensure to naturopathic physicians practicing in the state of Wisconsin. The bill first passed both committees. Then on January 25th, the bill passed unanimously out of the Senate. It is currently awaiting Governor Evers’ signature. Senate Bill 532 is now just one step away from becoming a Wisconsin law!
Licensure gives the public the confidence that their naturopathic physician has met important educational standards. This means that they graduated from a four-year professional-level program from an accredited naturopathic medicine school (like NUHS) and also passed the two-part naturopathic physicians licensing exams, which cover basic sciences, clinical sciences, and diagnostic and therapeutic subjects.
Being from Wisconsin myself, I am excited about this news. Up until this point, I have been assuming that I would be practicing in an unlicensed state. However, it looks like my state of Wisconsin will soon be licensing naturopathic physicians!
It is great to see that naturopathic medicine is being recognized more in the United States (including my state). I think that this will bring about a much-needed positive change in health care!
