In celebration of Veterans Day this year, A Salute To Our Heroes Foundation, a nonprofit that assists the needs of wounded warriors, made a donation to the NUHS Veterans Clinics.

The funds will be used to treat veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other disorders that affect combat veterans.

“Veterans who suffer from PTSD and TBI desperately need our support,” said Dona Stretch, founder of the Salute to Our Heroes Foundation.

She founded the organization to honor Specialist Ethan J .Martin, who was killed in Afghanistan, and to raise awareness for PTSD and TBI. Her son, Sargent Sean Stretch, who served alongside Martin in Afghanistan, suffers from both conditions.

The NUHS Veterans Clinics at the Illinois campus and Florida-site currently offers acupuncture treatment to veterans free of charge. Veterans and their spouses also receive a 20 percent discount on all other services. The clinic specializes in PTSD, addiction, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, flashbacks, musculoskeletal injuries and more.

Tracy McHugh, MBA, NUHS Vice President for Administrative Services, commended Stretch for the donation.

“Through her personal experience with wounded veterans and those that have given their life, it is clear that the mission is close to her heart,” McHugh said. “Her dedication and commitment will allow several veterans to receive care and support throughout the years to come.”
