A new book tells the true story of 1923 National College of Chiropractic (NCC) graduate Dr. Harold Solem, a pioneer Doctor on Trial by Merilyn Solem Muesingchiropractor and naturopath who faced opposition to his practices and, along with his colleagues, paved the way for the current generation of physicians who practice natural therapies. NCC later became National University of Health Sciences (NUHS).

The biography by his daughter, Merilyn Solem Muesing, Doctor on Trial: The Landmark Battle for Medical Freedom of Choice, reveals the challenges he and his colleagues faced for decades. The book reveals the history of opposition against early chiropractors by conventional medical practitioners. It is a story about freedom to choose preferred methods of medical treatment – conventional or alternative. At the age of 87, Dr. Solem was legally forced into medical isolation for his convictions, but acquitted at a fifth trial.

James Winterstein, DC, president emeritus of NUHS, wrote the Foreword for the book and a review on Amazon.
