On March 11, Massage Therapy Program students were treated to a campus visit by Ruth Werner, the author of their program textbook, A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology. Every NUHS massage therapy student was able to meet and ask questions of the internationally-known educator, who specializes in research and the role of massage therapy for people looking for ways to help manage their health.
“I have had the chance to visit massage schools all over the world,” Werner said. “NUHS is absolutely in the top tier of schools that I have ever seen.” She noted that the National University campus and the opportunities presented to its students “are practically unheard of” in massage therapy education. “I hope the students really appreciate what is available to them, and use these resources as much as possible,” she added.
Werner was in the area giving a presentation and wanted to visit NUHS and her longtime friend Jerrilyn Cambron, PhD, Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences and Distance Education. They met through their involvement in the Massage Therapy Foundation. “It is rare for students to have the opportunity to speak with one of the authors of their textbooks,” Dr. Cambron said, adding, “There is no doubt that her inspiring words about their education and our massage profession will stay with them forever.”
