illinois association of naturopathic physicians logoThe Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians (ILANP) will hold its very first conference on the campus of National University of Health Sciences, November 16th and 17th. The theme of the conference is “Integrative Approaches to Metabolic Disorders.”

The ILANP welcomes both member and non-member physicians at the conference.  ND or DC students are also welcome, and receive a significant discount on registration fees. In addition, the conference will offer continuing education credits for both NDs and DCs, through the NUHS Lincoln College of Post-Professional, Graduate and Continuing Education.

The conference will feature naturopathic medicine leaders Timothy Birdsall, ND, FABNO, and Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO, as keynote speakers. Dr. Birdsall is chief medical information officer for Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and is a fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the journal Alternative Medicine Review, and in 2007 was appointed to serve on the National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Alschuler is past-president of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and a founding and current board member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Current and former NUHS faculty members, along with other visiting physicians, will lead additional conference workshops.  Dr. Fraser Smith, assistant dean for naturopathic medicine, will speak on “The Use of Cardiac Biomarkers in Prevention and Treatment of Atherosclerosis Related Illness.” Dr. Lorinda Sorensen will address “The AMPK Pathway – A Key Target for Natural Therapies to Modulate Dysglycemia and Inflammation.”

“NUHS is a natural choice for our association’s very first conference,” says Dr. Fraser Smith. “It is a leader in continuing education for integrative health care professionals, as well as a leader in helping to move the naturopathic profession forward in Illinois.”

“We’re excited to see the naturopathic profession growing in Illinois, and are proud to be a part of helping the ILANP provide continuing education and professional development to its members,” says Dr. Joseph Stiefel, president of NUHS.
