DC interns from National University’s Whole Health Center – Aurora held a two-day heart health awareness event Feb. 28 – nuhs aurora interns heart health awareness community eventMarch 1.

Participating community members received an evaluation of their blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol level, and non-fasting glucose level. Interns then discussed assessments and recommendations individually with each participant.

Information covered in each assessment included keys for risk prevention, obtaining optimal cholesterol and glucose levels, ideal vitamin D levels, proper nutrition, and recommended physical activities.  Guests also had an opportunity to read educational literature pertaining to cardiovascular health.

The clinic also offered participants foot scans, postural analysis, and soft tissue work. In addition to raising heart health awareness, the event proved a valuable opportunity for the community to learn more about chiropractic medicine.

“It was so rewarding to be able to provide education and awareness to the community regarding their health. Many individuals were unaware of their increased cardiovascular risk until the evaluations at this event”, says Sonia Joubert, DC. “I’m also very proud of my interns for promoting this event, which provided them both marketing and clinical experience.”

Interns participating with Dr. Joubert included: Eric Cundiff, Sarah El Said, Diana Gallo, Samuel Hage, Daniel Han, Khalaf Khalifeh, Ashley Little, Jillian Mlinarcik, and Allan Quran. Staff member Maria Garcia greeted all guests and assisted them with their intake forms.  The clinic welcomed approximately 70 guests during the weekend activities.
